The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
