He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 To him you attend; 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble and pious. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
