The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the great event, 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 And made the night a cover. 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 We raised over you several secure (skies), 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Surely, the Day of Judgement has an appointed time. 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 a return for the insolent, 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
