He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to a rich man, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted and holy, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olives and palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
