Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death], 146 among gardens and fountains, 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 And obey not the command of the extravagant. 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 You are naught but a mortal like ourselves; so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful. 154 He said, “This is the she-camel one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
