He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to him thou attendest 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
