He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and fodder 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
