The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the heavens are rent asunder 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 when earth is stretched out 3 and casts forth what is in it, and voids itself, 4 in obedience to the commands of its Lord which are incumbent on it, (the human being will receive due recompense for his deeds). 5 [then,] O man - thou [that] hast, verily, been toiling towards thy Sustainer in painful toil - then shalt thou meet Him! 6 The reckoning of those whose Book of records will be given into their right hands 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 and will return rejoicing to his family. 9 But as for him whose record shall be given to him behind his back; 10 shall call for destruction 11 And be thrown to scorching fire. 12 Truly, did he go about among his people, rejoicing! 13 and had thought that they would never be brought back to life again. 14 Yea! surely his Lord does ever see him. 15 I swear by the glow of sunset, 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 and the moon, as it grows to its fullness: 18 Surely ye shall ride layer upon layer. 19 What is the matter with them, that they believe not? 20 When the Quran is read to them, why do they not fall to their knees? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 Allah knows best what they are accumulating (in their Record). 23 Therefore give to them glad tidings of a painful punishment, 24 unless it be such [of them] as [repent, and] attain to faith, and do good works; for theirs shall be a reward unending! 25
