The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 in which you are now living 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Deemest he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
