Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
