The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 No, not at all. Never obey him. But prostrate yourself and become nigh (to your Lord). ۩ 19
