Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 “Therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 So they cried him lies; then We destroyed them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 140
