۞ And put forward to them the example of two men; unto one of them We had given two gardens of grapes, and We had surrounded both with date-palms; and had put between them green crops (cultivated fields etc.). 32 Each of the gardens gave its fruit and withheld naught thereof. And We caused a river to gush forth therein. 33 so he had fruit. As he spoke with his companion, as he was conversing with him, 'My wealth is more abundant than yours and men have a greater respect for me' 34 He went into his garden in a state (of mind) unjust to his soul: He said, "I deem not that this will ever perish, 35 and I do not believe that the Hour will ever come. Even if I am returned to my Lord, I shall surely find a better place than this." 36 His companion said, during his conversation with him: 'What, do you disbelieve in Him who created you from dust, then from a sperm drop, and then fashioned you into a man! 37 But as for me, He, Allah, is my Lord, and I do not associate anyone with my Lord. 38 It was better for you to say, when you entered your garden: 'That which Allah wills (will come to pass)! There is no power but with Allah '. If you see me less than you in wealth, and children. 39 yet it may be that my Lord will give me better than thy garden, and loose on it a thunderbolt out of heaven, so that in the morning it will be a slope of dust, 40 Or some morning the water thereof will be lost in the earth so that thou canst not make search for it. 41 And all his fruit were destroyed, and in the morning he wrung his hands with grief at all he had spent on it, for it had collapsed upon its trellises, and he said: 'Would that I had not associated anyone with my Lord' 42 He had no body to help him other than God, nor was he able to save himself. 43 The jurisdiction in this province belongs to God. His is the best reward, and His the best requital. 44
