Samood gave the lie to the apostles 141 when their brother Salih said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 144 For this I ask of you no wage; my wage falls only upon the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death], 146 In gardens and watersprings. 147 and cornfields and date-palms laden with juicy fruits? 148 Will you still skilfully hew houses out of the mountains? 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 "And follow not the bidding of those who are extravagant,- 151 Who make mischief in the land and do not act aright. 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 He said, "This is the she-camel - one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn." 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 And indeed your Lord - only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
