۞ (God will command the angels), "Gather together the unjust, their spouses, and what they had worshipped 22 other than Allah, and guide them to the Path of Hell! 23 And detain them, for they will be questioned." 24 How is it that you are not helping one another? 25 In fact this day they have all surrendered. 26 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 27 They will say: "It was you who used to come to us from the right side [i.e. from the right side of one of us and beautify for us every evil, order us for polytheism, and stop us from the truth i.e. Islamic Monotheism and from every good deed]." 28 The oppressors will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers, 29 We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk. 30 Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom). 31 "So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray." 32 So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another. 33 This is how We deal with the guilty. 34 When they were told, "There is no deity but God," they turned away with disdain, 35 and said: 'Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet' 36 Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him). 37 You will indeed taste a painful punishment, 38 and will be recompensed only for what you deserve. 39 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 40 For them there will be a known provision (in Paradise). 41 Fruits. And they will be honoured 42 In gardens of delight, 43 Facing one another on thrones. 44 Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine; 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated. 47 and with them wide-eyed maidens restraining their glances 48 [as free of faults] as if they were hidden [ostrich] eggs. 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 One of them will say: 'I had a companion 51 Who used to say: 'Are you one of those who can testify to the truth? 52 after we die and become dust and bones, we shall be brought to judgement?'" 53 (The man) said: "Will you look down?" 54 Then he looks, and sees him in the midst of Hell. 55 'By God', he said, 'you had almost ruined me. 56 But for Allah's favour, I should be one of those who have been mustered here. 57 So, are we not going to die, 58 Saving our former death, and are we not to be punished? 59 Indeed, this is the great attainment. 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 So is this welcome better, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have made this tree a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 for, behold, it is a tree that grows in the very heart of the blazing fire [of hell,] 64 Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils. 65 They will eat from it and fill their bellies with it; 66 Then they will have on top of it a mixture of boiling water. 67 then their return is to Hell. 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 and they run in their footsteps. 70 And indeed before them, most of the former people went astray. 71 though We had sent warners among them. 72 Then look how was the end of those who were warned - 73 Save the bondmen of Allah sincere. 74
