He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 To him you give attention. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you ignore him. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
