۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 Beside Allah, and lead them on to the path of the Flaming Fire. 23 and stop them there for questioning: 24 "What is the matter with you that you do not help each other?" 25 Nay! on that Day they will be entirely submissive. 26 And some of them shall advance towards others, questioning each other. 27 They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). 28 They answer: Nay, but ye (yourselves) were not believers. 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 The sentence of our Lord has come true for us. We have certainly to taste (the punishment), 31 So then, [if it be true that] we have caused you to err grievously - behold, we ourselves had been lost in grievous error!" 32 Then verily, that Day, they will (all) share in the torment. 33 Even so We do with the sinners; 34 They were those who, when it was said to them, "There is no god but God," behaved with insolence, 35 And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?" 36 Nay, but he [whom you call a mad poet] has brought the truth; and he confirms the truth of [what the earlier of God's] message-bearers [have taught]. 37 Verily ye are going to taste a torment afflictive. 38 “And you will not be compensated except for your deeds.” 39 Except for God's sincere servants; 40 shall have a known provision -- 41 a variety of delicious fruits; and they shall be honoured 42 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise), 43 On couches, facing one another. 44 Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine; 45 White, a pleasure unto the drinkers. 46 causing no headiness or intoxication. 47 And with them will be maidens (houris) who restrain their wide glances 48 so delicate as the hidden peel under an egg's shell. 49 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 50 A speaker of them will say: "Verily, I had a companion (in the world), 51 who used to ask, 'Do you really believe that 52 After we are dead and have become all dust and bones shall we still be requited?' 53 He said: 'Will you look down?' 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 'By Allah' he will say, 'you almost destroyed me! 56 If it had not been for the blessing of my Lord, I would also have been taken to Hell." 57 So, are we not going to die, 58 except for our first death? And shall we suffer no chastisement?'” 59 Lo! this is the supreme triumph. 60 For the like of this, then, let them labour, those who labour [in God's way]! 61 Is such [a paradise] the better welcome - or the [hellish] tree of deadly fruit? 62 We have made this tree a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 Indeed it is a tree that sprouts from the base of hell. 64 The fruit thereof is as though the hoods of the serpents. 65 Truly, they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 then on top of it they have a brew of boiling water, 67 And thereafter verily their return is unto the Flaming Fire. 68 They indeed found their fathers astray, 69 So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps. 70 And certainly most of the ancients went astray before them, 71 although, verily, We had sent warners unto them: 72 So behold what wise hath been the end of those who were warned. 73 except for the chosen servants of Allah? 74
