20 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Pen (Al-Qalam) before The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 Half of it, or a little less than that, 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 But recite the name of your Lord withdrawing yourself from everything, devoting yourself exclusively to Him. 8 [He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs. 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 We have heavy fetters and a blazing Fire in store for them; 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 Surely We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We had sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 However, the Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger and We seized him with a severe retribution. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 Verily this is a reminder. So let him who desires take the way to his Lord. 19

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
