Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
HA MIM. 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 in pursuance of thy Sustainer's grace [unto man]. Verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 [Still,] behold, We shall postpone this suffering for a little while, although you are bound to revert [to your evil ways: but] 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' 22 So go forth with My servants by night; surely you will be pursued: 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Thus it was. And [then] We made another people heirs [to what they had left,] 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
