The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 and extended shade, 30 And water poured out 31 And fruits numberless, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
