The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the setting star, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
