The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 On studded thrones. 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and spreading shade 30 Gushing water, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
