He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 So you are after him! 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And hath fear, 9 you ignore him. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olives and palms 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
