The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 for those on the Right, 38
