The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and continuous shade, 30 And water gushing, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 for the people of the right hand 38
