The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
