The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 and purify your robes, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
