And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries. 71 'Do they hear you when you call on them' He asked. 72 'Can they benefit you or harm you' 73 They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise. 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 and what your grandfathers worshipped 76 They are enemies to me except the Lord of all the Worlds 77 Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me. 78 And Who feedeth me and watereth me. 79 And heals me when I am sick, 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 And give unto me a good report in later generations. 84 and make me of those who will inherit the Garden of Bliss, 85 And forgive my father, for surely he is of those who have gone astray; 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 The day on which property will not avail, nor sons 88 and when he alone will be saved who comes to God with a sound heart." 89 And the Garden shall be brought nigh to the God-fearing. 90 And the Fierce Fire shall be made apparent unto the seduced ones. 91 It will be said to them: 'Where is that you worshipped, 92 “Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?” 93 Then will they be hurled therein, they and the seducers 94 And the soldiers of Iblees, all together. 95 And they will say, and they will be quarrelling in it: 96 “By oath of Allah, we were indeed in open error.” 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 And no one misguided us except the criminals. 99 Now we have none to intercede for us, 100 “Nor a caring friend.” 101 If only we could return and be among the believers!" 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
