[Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said to the chiefs around him: "Verily! This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer. 34 He wants to drive you out of your land by his magic. So, what do you bid?" 35 They said, "Hold him and his brother off for a while 36 And bring the ablest magicians to you." 37 So the sorcerers were assembled at a fixed time on a day appointed. 38 And it was said unto the people: are ye going to assemble. 39 "That we may follow the sorcerers (in religion) if they win?" 40 So when the sorcerers arrived, they said to Pharaoh: "Of course - shall we have a (suitable) reward if we win? 41 'Yes, indeed' he answered, 'and you shall become among those who are near stationed' 42 Musa (Moses) said to them: "Throw what you are going to throw!" 43 So they cast down their ropes and staffs, and said, "By Pharaoh's honour, we shall surely win." 44 Then Musa cast down his staff and lo! it swallowed up the lies they told. 45 Then the magicians fell prostrating in adoration, 46 saying, "We believe in the Lord of the Universe 47 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 48 Said Pharaoh, 'You have believed him before I gave you leave. Why, he is the chief of you, the same that taught you sorcery; now you shall know! I shall assuredly cut off alternately your hands and feet, then I shall crucify you all together.' 49 They said: no harm! verily unto our Lord we are to return. 50 and we surely expect that Our Lord will forgive us our sins for we are the first ones to believe." 51
