Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 And [by] the night when it departs 33 By the dawn when it lightens! 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 as a warner to mortals. 36 Whoever of you desires to progress or lag behind. 37 Every soul shall be pledged for what it has earned, 38 Except those on the right side. 39 In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another, 40 concerning the sinners, 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 They will answer: "We were not among those who prayed; 43 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 "And we used to belie the Day of Recompense 46 till the certainty (death) overtook us' 47 So the intercession of the intercessors will not benefit them. (The disbelievers will not have any intercessor.) 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 As though they were frightened asses 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 Nay, verily. They fear not the Hereafter. 53 Never so, as this is a reminder. 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 they will only take heed if God so wills: He is the Lord who is worthy to be feared: the Lord of forgiveness. 56
