And indeed We inspired Musa (Moses) (saying): "Travel by night with Ibadi (My slaves) and strike a dry path for them in the sea, fearing neither to be overtaken [by Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] nor being afraid (of drowning in the sea)." 77 So Firaun went after them with his army – therefore the sea enveloped them, the way it did. 78 Pharaoh led his people astray; he did not guide them aright. 79 Children of Israel, We saved you from your enemy and promised to settle you on the right side of the peaceful Mount Tur (Sinai) and We sent you manna and quails. 80 (Saying): Eat of the good things wherewith We have provided you, and transgress not in respect thereof lest My wrath come upon you: and he on whom My wrath cometh, he is lost indeed. 81 but to whosoever repents, believes and does good deeds, and is at last guided, I am Forgiving' 82 ۞ "But, O Moses, what has made you come in haste from your people?" 83 He submitted, “They are here, just behind me – and O my Lord, I hastened towards You, in order to please You.” 84 He said: So surely We have tried your people after you, and the Samiri has led them astray. 85 Moses returned to his people in anger and great sorrow. He said, "My people, did your Lord not make you a handsome promise? Was my absence too long for you? Did you desire that your Lord's wrath should descend upon you, when you broke your promise to me?" 86 They said: We broke not tryst with thee of our own will, but we were laden with burdens of ornaments of the folk, then cast them (in the fire), for thus As-Samiri proposed. 87 "Then he brought out (of the fire) before the (people) the image of a calf: It seemed to low: so they said: This is your god, and the god of Moses, but (Moses) has forgotten!" 88 Why did they not see that [the thing] could not give them any response, and had no power to harm or to benefit them? 89
