He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and in awe of God 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
