He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 uplifted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olives and palms 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
