The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and spreading shade 30 And water everflowing. 31 and abundant fruit, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
