The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is cleft asunder, 1 and obeys its Lord as it must, 2 And when the earth is flattened out, 3 And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it] 4 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 Whoever is given the Record in his right hand 7 He will be judged with an easy account 8 And will return to his people full of joy. 9 And whoever is given his record of deeds behind his back – 10 he will in time pray for utter destruction: 11 and roast at the Blaze. 12 Verily he was among his people joyous. 13 Verily he imagined that he would not be back. 14 But he will indeed! His Lord was ever watching him. 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 And the night and all it gathers, 17 and the moon when it grows full, 18 That ye shall journey on from plane to plane. 19 But what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 and when the Koran is recited to them they do not bow? ۩ 21 Instead, the unbelievers reject it, calling it a lie. 22 but God knows best whatever they accumulate in their hearts. 23 Hence, give them the tiding of grievous suffering [in the life to come] 24 But those who believe and work righteous works, theirs shall be a hire unending. 25
