Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
