Al-Layl
The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 And accepts the best, 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
