The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
