Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions ranged 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
