The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
