He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fearfully, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruit and grass - 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
