The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And affirms goodness, 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 and rejects what is right, 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 He verily will be content. 21
