Indeed this is a revelation from the Lord of the Universe; 192 the Faithful Spirit has brought it down 193 upon thy heart, that thou mayest be one of the warners, 194 It has been revealed in plain Arabic. 195 And indeed, it is [mentioned] in the scriptures of former peoples. 196 Was it not a proof for them that the learned men of Israel knew about this? 197 And if we had revealed it to any of the foreigners 198 and had he recited it unto them [in his own tongue,] they would not have believed in it. 199 In this wise have We made way for it into the hearts of the culprits. 200 they will not believe in it until they see the grievous punishment. 201 so that it will come upon them suddenly, while they are not aware, 202 and they will say, 'Shall we be respited?' 203 Do they really want Our chastisement to be expedited? 204 What do you see? If We gave them enjoyment for years, 205 and then the promised punishment fell upon them, 206 What shall that which they enjoyed avail them? 207 And withal, never have We destroyed any community unless it had been warned 208 By way of reminder; and We never are unjust. 209 No evil ones have brought down this (Revelation): 210 neither are they worthy of it, nor are they capable of it, 211 They have been precluded from hearing it. 212 So do not invoke with Allah another deity and [thus] be among the punished. 213 and warn your nearest kinsmen; 214 And be kind to him who follows you of the believers. 215 If they disobey you, say, "I bear no responsibility for what you do." 216 And put your trust in Him Who is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate, 217 Who observes you when you rise (to pray) 218 and when thou turnest about among those who bow. 219 He is All-hearing and All-knowing." 220 Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend? 221 They descend upon every sinful liar. 222 Who listens to you (for spreading rumours); but most of them are liars. 223 And the poets - [only] the deviators follow them; 224 hast thou not seen how they wander in every valley 225 And that they say what they practise not?- 226 Except those who believe, work righteousness, engage much in the remembrance of Allah, and defend themselves only after they are unjustly attacked. And soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes their affairs will take! 227
