And to Thamud (people, We sent) their brother Salih (Saleh). He said: "O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other Ilah (God) but Him. (La ilaha ill-Allah: none has the right to be worshipped but Allah). Indeed there has come to you a clear sign (the miracle of the coming out of a huge she-camel from the midst of a rock) from your Lord. This she-camel of Allah is a sign unto you; so you leave her to graze in Allah's earth, and touch her not with harm, lest a painful torment should seize you. 73 Remember, how you were made leaders after the people of 'Ad, and were settled on the land so that you could construct on the plains palaces, and carve dwellings out of mountains. So think of the favours of God, and do not act with corruption in the land." 74 The chiefs of those who were stiff-necked amongst His people said unto those who were counted weak - unto such of them as believed: know ye that Salih is a sent one of his Lord? They said: verily we are believers in that wherewith he hath been sent. 75 Those who were proud said: 'We disbelieve in that which you believed in' 76 So they hamstrung the she-camel, and they flouted the commandment of their Lord, and they said: O Salih! Bring upon us that thou threatenest if thou art indeed of those sent (from Allah). 77 So the earthquake overwhelmed them, and morning found them prostrate in their dwelling places. 78 And [Salih] turned away from them, and said: "O my people! Indeed, I delivered unto you my Sustainer's message and gave you good advice: but you did not love those who gave [you] good advice." 79 Lot told his people, "Why do you commit such indecent acts that have never been committed by anyone before? 80 Indeed, you approach men with desire, instead of women. Rather, you are a transgressing people." 81 His people made no answer, and only said: "Drive them out of the city. They profess to be pure." 82 So We saved him and his family, except for his wife; she was of those who remained [with the evildoers]. 83 and We let loose a shower [of stones] upon them, Observe, then, the end of the evil-doers. 84
