۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 other than Allah, and guide them to the Path of Hell! 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 'But what is the matter with you that you cannot help one another?,'" 25 In fact, on that day they will be submissive. 26 And they will turn to one another, and question one another. 27 They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" 28 But they reply: 'Rather, you were not believers. 29 "And we had no authority over you. Nay! But you were transgressing people (disobedient, polytheists, and disbelievers). 30 "So now has been proved true, against us, the word of our Lord that we shall indeed (have to) taste (the punishment of our sins). 31 "So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray." 32 So, they will become partners in punishment. 33 Even so We do with the sinners; 34 For when it was said to them: 'There is no god except Allah' they were always proud 35 And they used to say, “Shall we forsake our Gods upon the sayings of a mad poet?” 36 Nay, but he [whom you call a mad poet] has brought the truth; and he confirms the truth of [what the earlier of God's] message-bearers [have taught]. 37 (They will be told): “You shall taste the grievous chastisement. 38 You will only be recompensed according to your deeds.” 39 Except for God's sincere servants; 40 Those! theirs shall be a provision known: 41 Fruits of every kind, and they will be honoured 42 In Gardens of Delight. 43 Facing each other on Thrones (of Dignity): 44 Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine; 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 Neither does it intoxicate, nor give a headache. 47 And with them maidens of modest look and large lustrous eyes, 48 [as free of faults] as if they were hidden [ostrich] eggs. 49 So one among them turns to the other, questioning. – 50 One of them will say: 'I had a companion 51 "Who used to say, 'what! art thou amongst those who bear witness to the Truth (of the Message)? 52 after we die and become dust and bones, we shall be brought to judgement?'" 53 He says, 'Are you looking down?' 54 Then he looked down and saw him in the midst of hell. 55 'By Allah' he will say, 'you almost destroyed me! 56 “And were it not for the munificence of my Lord, I too would have been seized and brought forth (captive)!” 57 "Is it (the case) that we shall not die, 58 except for our first death, and are we not chastised? 59 This is indeed the mighty triumph, 60 For the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of al-Zaqqum? 62 Verily We! We have made it a temptation for the wrong-doers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire: 64 Its fruit like the heads of demons. 65 (The people of Hell) will surely eat of it, filling their bellies with it. 66 Washing it down with boiling water. 67 then their return is unto Hell. 68 Surely they found their fathers going astray, 69 and [now] they make haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 Most of the ancient people had also gone astray. 71 And certainly We sent among them warners. 72 and behold what happened in the end to those that had been warned [to no avail]! 73 Save the bondmen of Allah sincere. 74
