The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the heaven, and the night-visitor, 1 Do you know what al-tariq is? 2 (It is) the piercing star. 3 There is no soul but that it has over it a protector. 4 So let man observe from what he was created. 5 He was created of a gushing fluid, 6 Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs: 7 God has all power to resurrect him. 8 The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). 9 (Man) will have no power, and no helper. 10 I swear by the raingiving heavens, 11 And [by] the earth which cracks open, 12 It is surely a decisive utterance; 13 it is no merriment. 14 They are devising a guile, 15 and I am devising guile. 16 Give respite to the disbelievers and leave them alone for a while. 17
