The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
