The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 The mountains like the tufts of (carded) wool, 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 and of all the kinsfolk who ever sheltered him, 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 When evil comes upon him he is impatient; 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 except those that pray 22 Who persevere in devotion, 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 Except with their wives and the bondwomen in their possession, for there is no reproach on them. 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 They will be in gardens, honored. 35
