The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the sky has split [open] 1 And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] 2 when the earth flattens out, 3 And it unburdens itself of all that is in it, and becomes empty. 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it. 6 Then, as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand, 7 He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning, 8 And he will turn to his people, rejoicing! 9 And as to him who shall be given his book from behind his back 10 He shall presently call for death, 11 They will suffer the heat of hell fire. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 He verily deemed that he would never return (unto Allah). 14 Surely yes, why not? Indeed his Lord is seeing him. 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 And [by] the moon when it becomes full 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them, that they do not believe 20 Why, when the Quran is recited to them, do they not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 In fact, they reject the Quran, 22 but God knows best whatever they accumulate in their hearts. 23 So announce to them a Penalty Grievous, 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
