The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
